Back to List of Team Captains
  1. If playing at home, arrive early and make sure table is ready for play.   Get a score sheet and envelope out of your team packet and have them ready for the visiting team when they arrive.
  2. Make sure all players from both teams have a chance to practice before the match.   Winners of practice games should not stay on the table if others have not had a chance to practice.   If a player arrives at the bar after 6:45 they should not expect to get in any practice before the match begins.
  3. If a team has not shown up by 7:00, call the opposing team captain.   The list of captains' phone numbers are in your team packet.   The match must begin by 7:15.   It is OK to start the match if there are only a few players there and you expect the others to arrive shortly.
  4. Collect the $50 from your team and give the money to the home team captain BEFORE the start of the match.
  5. Every player must be a member of the BCAPL to play in the Santa Barbara Pool League.   To join, players must fill out a membership form and pay $20.   Forms should be located where the score sheets are.   Captains please include all completed forms and BCAPL fees in the weekly envelope.
  6. Home team captains - collect money from the visiting captain, give $10 to bartender, and put the other $90 in the league envelope.   Make sure the reasons for any extra money or missing money are noted on the score sheet.
  7. If you are missing a teammate, using a sub, or if a teammate has no money, the captain is responsible for ensuring that the entire $50 is paid.   You can either pay this yourself or ask your teammates to split the extra cost.   There must be $50 collected each week, no matter how many players show up and/or pay.
  8. If playing at home, collect the beer frame drink orders from all players on both teams when the match is approximately half over.   Remind everyone that they can receive a free drink only if they have purchased the same previously.   DO NOT ABUSE THIS PRIVILEGE OR IT WILL BE TAKEN AWAY!!
  9. Ensure that someone from your team is acting as a referee at all times.   You can rotate this responsibility.   Having an extra set of eyes on the game is the best way to resolve disputes.
  10. Make sure your teammates know to tell you, as soon as possible, when they will not be able to play.   Start looking for subs immediately.   Contact the league if you have difficulty finding a sub.
  11. Home team captains - when the match is over ensure that the score sheet and money are sealed in the envelope.   Write the team names on the outside of the envelope and give it to the bartender (or secure it in a predetermined location).
  12. If the envelope is lost, the home team captain is responsible for the missing money.
  13. When using a sub, make sure you ask the sub if they have played for another team during the season.   During a season, a sub may not play for teams from two different bars, unless the sub is playing at his or her home bar.
  14. In Winter, team captains receive all team playoff money and are responsible for dividing it up amongst the team members.   How you divide the money is up to you, in case you have some part-time players.
  15. Ensure that your teammates practice good sportsmanship.   Make sure they know to shake hands before and after a game.   Do not allow your teammates to coach each other and/or intentionally distract your opponents.   Shake hands with the opposing team after the match is over.   Watch out for teammates who are drinking too much, especially if they want to drive home.
  16. Make sure you and your teammates read and understand all of the rules.   Most arguments start because one or both sides do not know the correct ruling.
  17. If there is a dispute about a shot and the players and/or captains cannot resolve it, the home team captain must call the league president immediately for a ruling.   (Chris: 805-259-7814) If there is no answer, find out which bar Chris (Sportsman 1) is playing at and call that bar.
